Heather Madrid
French Curve Designs
Growing
up Heather always thought she would be a teacher, but after taking a
Fashion class in High School, she knew her career would be in the
Apparel Industry. Her first job in the industry was at 17 working for
Esther’s Fabrics and Bridal. There she learned the art of custom made
evening, bridesmaid, and wedding dresses. She was able to help design
the dresses, pick out the fabric, work with the sewers, and watch over
the fittings. Since it was a small shop, she was taught all about
different kinds of fabric and even was able to order items for the
store. It was the beginning of her love for Custom Design Clothes and
Good Fit.
After High School, Heather went on to attend and
graduate from Texas Christian University in Fashion Design with a minor
in Economics. She interned with small firms, Dillard’s, and Gerber
Technology. It was at Gerber that she fell in love with Computers and
Pattern Making.
After College she moved out to Phoenix to work
for Arizona Textiles. It is one of the few Manufacturing plants left
in the United States. She was an assistant Designer. There she honed
her pattern making and grading skills and met her husband to be. After
two years, she moved back to Dallas and started working for Gerber
Technology. She was able to train and consult with all types of
companies on the CAD system for pattern production. She traveled
domestic and international for her job. Once Gerber acquired Cutting
Edge, she was able to master their line of Cutters.
After
four years and the birth of her son, she was missing the industry. She
went to work with a startup company that manufactures Cheerleading
uniforms. The first summer she was a one man show in the production of
cheer uniforms. But the experience of that summer has helped Heather
grow into an expert in making cheer uniforms.
Three years later,
Heather had her second child and was ready for a change. By a leap of
faith and the push of her husband, Heather decided to go to work for
herself. French Curve Designs is now 5 years old. Heather has had
many clients ranging to a high end children’s line to cheer and sport teams.
Heather
has had many great work experiences; Designing a costume for the Movie
“Bring It on Again” (She even went on the movie set in LA.), helping a
startup Children line with the pattern production and having them ‘grow
up’ and hire someone in house to do the work, going to China to help
with fit problems for a prom line, and many more rewarding experiences.
Heather’s
expertise still is creating great designs and beautiful clothes. After
20 years in the business she loves going to work every day and watching
dreams come to life.
